William was a graduate of Simon Fraser University in BioChemistry, Molecular Biology and BioChemistry. He studied these with the
intentions to go to medical school but he decided that being a doctor wasn't something of interest. He studied Accounting as well and worked as an accountant in Vancouver, Canada but found the job too boring. His true interest was in computers, which he had fun with throughout his life and childhood. In the end, he decided to do the things he liked with passion by heading to Hong Kong in 1996 to do the most challenging things.
Being a scientist and with a passion for computers, gave him an analytical upper hand in looking at computer systems, networks and how they behaved. Deep inside of him, William was actually a scientist in both software and hardware systems. He cut his teeth by writing application and system code, as well as assembling systems throughout his life. In 1996, he led engineering and co-founded PowerNet and it's subsidiaries which became an ISP technical leader in Hong Kong.
William designed and built a very technically advanced data center. He founded PowerNetix and he was the Chief Technical Officer. The technical superiority of this data center is the result of many hardware and software products including technology from operating systems, servers, routers, intrusion detection, layer 7/5 routing, and Layer 4/3 global path optimization techniques proprietary to the company. He devised the concept of Internet Utility Computing at network levels as well.
He developed the ground breaking line of routers and servers based on clustering of symmetrical multi-CPU platforms. In year 2003, a new company was formed by him, his brother and partners called Power-All Networks. Being the CTO, he guided the company towards a new paradigm in providing integrated scalability and solutions to the demand of the coming data revolution. He also wrote numerous whitepapers and a book which has not been published yet that mentions how to achieve performance gains in a computer system and network by up to 60 times faster. He is featured in the book of 香港一百個叻人 (Hong Kong's 100 smartest persons).
