My husband, William Kam, was the best person I have ever met in this world. The first time we met was in April, 1996. His cousin and my sister arranged a lunch for us and introduced him and his brother to me. We had lunch at the Prince's Cafe in Central. My first impression of him was that he was very polite and pleasant. He always wore a smile on his face. He was a very lively person. That day, he told me about his trip to the Rocky Mountains. He said he enjoyed the trip very much and was excited about the experience. He was very impressive.
After a few months in September, we had lunch again with his father, cousin and brother. Since then, we started dating and talked frequently on the phone. By December before Christmas, we were in love.
We were very happy together and loved each other very much. Two months later in Feb, 1997, we started talking about marriage. On October 18, 1997, we were married in Vancouver.
William is a very sweet person. When we were together, he did a lot of funny things to make me happy, laugh and to please me. One of the funny things he used to do were that every Sunday, we would have dim sum with his family. He liked dim sum alot. I loved making fun of him. When I said to him in bed,"No, we are not going to have dim sum today." He would then pretend not to hear me and continue to sleep. If I then said "OK! yes, we are going", he would slowly open his eyes and suddenly jump out of bed and run to the bathroom and start shaving. This really made me laugh.
Another funny thing was that I used to drive occasionally and would pick him up after work. Every time, when he saw me in the car, he would bend both knees a little (because he was afraid to fall) to ready himself to run to meet me. His face was always smiling. I laughed. I always felt very warm inside to know that he was so happy and eager to see me after a long, hardworking day.
William enjoyed food very much. I brought him to many restaurants and places for dining. Among all the food, he liked dim sum at Maxim's the most. His most favorite dim sum was steamed roll with barbecue pork, fried turnip cake and deep fried dumpling with pork. He also liked Peking duck at Peking Garden and preserved chinese sausages and duck rice in claypot at Wing Wah restaurant. At home, he liked to eat all kinds of fish and steamed minced pork with salty eggs. He also liked to eat deep fried pork chop at his grandma’s home as well as Shanghainese food at his grandma brother’s home.
Watching TV cooking shows was one of his favorite things. William was a good cook. His most famous dish was roast beef. He created his own seasoning receipe and cooking method. Most of our relatives and friends had tried this before. Every few months, friends and relatives would request to come to my home again and have roast beef dinner. William always used his heart to cook; he enjoyed cooking for them. When he saw them enjoying his food so much, he felt very happy. It was his way of showing his love and respect for his relatives and friends.
William is a very humble person. When everyone told him that the roast beef was very delicious, he would never take the credit and instead give it to me. He would say Stella knew how to buy good beef. When he invented some new technology, he would tell me about it with enthusiasm and excitement. He was not looking for me to praise him. He just wanted to share his joy with me and have me learn more. I always told him," I am very proud of you!"
I am a secured person because of William. He is a mature and warm-hearted person. Whenever I had a problem, I would tell him. He was always on my side to support me and would offer solutions. I always listened to his advice. When I was not happy, I cried. His eyes would then turn red with tears. I knew he felt my sadness in his heart too.
William is a Catholic. He knew the Bible very well. Whenever I did not understand something from the Bible, he would explain them to me. I remembered once when I was upset about something, he told me a true story to comfort me. The story was shown on TV. It was about a man who lost his whole family in an accident. He was the only survivor; but he was strong and positive. A few years later, a reporter interviewed the man again. All he said to the reporter was " I Love God and I am happy". William was trying to tell me that if I put strong faith in God, I would be saved.
Sometimes, I would ask him to download something into a CD for me. I might not even remember, but the next morning, the CD was ready. He did it at night after I was asleep. One time, I told him I liked 80's music alot. Instead of buying me some 80's music CDs, he checked on the internet for a few nights. Finally, he burned two music CDs for me. They were all the 80's hittest songs. In addition, he downloaded twenty more songs on my MP3. He even found a radio channel on the internet that broadcasted only 80's music. William is very kind, patient and thoughtful towards me.
William is a practical person. He seldom bought me very expensive things besides electronic products. What he had done for me in the past ten years is more than enough. They all fill my heart. I have his love. And that is the most valuable thing I have in my life. Nothing can replace his true love for me. I can see "pureness" in him. I always asked him why you love me so much. His answer was always, " we think alike." He smiled from his heart whenever he said that. I believe that if someone you love shares the same thinking as you, it really means something special. He knew I could read his mind. When he was happy, he knew I would know why and would share his joy. When he was sad, he also knew I would understand, support and be there for him.
Ten years together is not very long. But we loved each other and we were happy together every single moment of the day. That is the greatest gift from God to both of us.
There is always an end to everything. But our Love does not end. It is everlasting.
I know William is happy; he smiles to me in my dream.
I know he is overseeing me everyday; he tells me in my dream.
I know we will see each other again in heaven, he promises in my dream.
To me, William is the most beautiful human being that God has created on earth.
William, I love you forever. God, I love you forever and ever. |
